Assistant Principal's Message
Dear Parents, Carers and the St Joseph’s Community,
“The disciple of Christ who, after sinning, is moved by the Holy Spirit and comes to the Sacrament of Penance, should, above all, turn to God with all his (her) heart.” |
As we journey through the season of lent, we are reminded of the importance of repentance and reconciliation in our lives. This message is one that we strive to live out each day in our school community where we see each as an opportunity for growth and renewal in our students and ourselves. As we continue to navigate the challenges and joys of the academic term, we strive to stay focused on what matters in our community and extend kindness and compassion to others in their moments of need.
We have passed the halfway point of Term 1 and it has been a pleasure to see our students settled and flourishing in their learning environments. Last week the school was buzzing with activity each evening as we opened our classrooms to host parent teacher interviews. We thank our parents and our teachers for giving up their family time and take the opportunity to work in partnership to enrich the learning experiences of our students. If you were not able to attend interviews in the allocated meeting times, we encourage you to contact your child’s teacher to arrange and alternate meeting time.

Camp
This week our Year 6 students and teachers will be away on camp in Jindabyne. This is a wonderful opportunity for our school leaders to build teamwork, independence, and confidence as they prepare to transition from primary school to high school at the end of the year. We wish them a safe and enjoyable time together.
.
Compass
Last week, an email was sent to families of students with unexplained absences. It is important that all student absences are lodged using the Compass Parent Portal. This can be done prior to your child being away, on the day of their absence or in a timely manner after they return to school. Maintaining and following up absences in a legal requirement so I appreciate your help in keeping your records up to date. If you have any questions regarding Compass please do not hesitate to contact me via phone or email.
We ask that if you child is going to be away for an appointment for only part of the school day that you use the office kiosk to sign them out and then back in. This is in place of a part day attendance notes via the parent portal. This ensures there is no overlap of attendance and absence if the sign in times do not exactly meet the attendance note. Thank you for your understanding with this.
.
NAPLAN
In week 7, Years 3 and 5 will undertake NAPLAN testing from Wednesday to Friday. The NAPLAN tests are conducted in a supportive and low stress environment with teachers working to prepare students since the beginning of the year. If you have any concerns in the lead up or during testing please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or a member of the leadership team.
.
Wishing you a wonderful end of the week.
Grace and Peace,
Beth Hawkes
