Week 1 Term 2 2020 Newsletter

Dear Parents, Carers and the St Joseph's Community,

Welcome back to Term 2. What a remarkable lead up to the new term and an even more impressive start today. Over recent weeks there has been so much communicated by the school and from Catholic Education, as well as all the media commentary, but the truth of it all has been about the students' learning. Today we 'flicked the switch' on our remote learning program and, while we will continue to solve some of the challenges, it has been a very positive day. Thank you to all the students for how they have engaged in the learning that has been shared today. I have seen lots of responses to questions and also completed work uploaded during the day - I have been added to every class, so get an alert almost everytime something is posted!

Well done to all of our new 'classroom support assistants', or as we like to call them, the parents, who have been there to support their children today and over the past few weeks. We know that it is challenging to get your heads around all of this, while at the same time managing work and home life. Thank you.

Lastly, well done teachers! No shortage of planning went into preparing for today, but it is always nice to have things go well and for us to remain committed to what we do best - teach the students.

In regards to maintaining communication between school and home, I again encourage all parents to download and set alerts for SZapp. This is the main way whole-school information is shared, particulary at this time. All necessary information in relation to the remote learning program and what is happening within the school, is available on the Feed within SZapp.

Have a good end to the week and contact me if you have any questions.

Enrolment Period

We are now accepting enrolment applications for the 2021 school year.

While we are currently unable to offer Open Days, we will be hosting virtual tours and opportunities to meet with me over the coming weeks. Please keep an eye on our website for further details.

Have a good end to week and contact me if you have any questions.

Yours in Christ,

Religious Life of St Joseph’s

Be God’s Love

REWk1T2Image1.jpg

This week we have begun Term 2 like no other in living memory. At this time our focus for 2020 is more important than ever as we take up the challenge to “Be God’s Love” to those around us. Where do we see the face of God?

Prayer

At this time spending time talking to God is needed more than ever. To support families we have developed our own St Joseph’s Prayer website to support families with prayer. It contains our St Joseph’s school prayers, messages from Father Paul, age-appropriate prayers for each grade, prayer resources for adults You can access the site at:

I spoke to Harry from year 6 as I was interested to hear how his family commemorated Anzac Day this year. I would like to thank Harry for sharing his story. Here is what he said...

What would Anzac Day normally look like for your family? – Normally we would go to the Army Barracks but this year we stood at the end of our neighbour’s driveway.

What did you do this year? – This year we lit candles and our neighbour had a speaker so we could hear the speeches and listen to The Last Post. It was really cold and foggy.

How did it make you feel? – It made me feel sad because my Grandad went to war and it made me feel proud of my mum because she joined the Army to help keep the peace.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Defence families, current and ex-serving for their dedication, courage and acts of service.

If you would like to share how your family commemorated Anzac day please send photos to sally.adams@cg.catholic.edu.au
