LAST WEEK FOR DONATION
St Vincent Christmas Appeal – Food hampers
St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal is the time to share all the wonderful Christmas cheer at St Joseph’s with those who are less fortunate than us. To help those in need we will be participating in the St Vincent de Paul 2024 Christmas Appeal. The Christmas Appeal will be launched on Monday of Week 5 and conclude on Friday 6 December. Each year level has been allocated a food group to donate. Please consider showing your child how we can all bring joy to others this Christmas through donating to others in need. For families wishing to provide a gift for specific families in our area there will be a giving tree in the front office at both the ELC and school. These giving trees will have gift tags with the age and gender of people in the O’Connor and Lyneham area that are in need this Christmas. Families are invited to take a tag from the tree, and tape it to a wrapped gift before placing it under the giving tree. If purchasing gift cards please give them to the office for safe keeping.

Christmas Compost Contest
Congratulations to 1 Purple for winning the Christmas Compost contest! While other classes continue to have whole fruits and vegetables in their compost buckets, 1 Purple has been diligent about finishing fruit and only adding peels and cores.
The Changemakers requested a contest to encourage classes to stop wasting fruit scraps after witnessing a lot of uneaten fruit in the compost. For 2 weeks, Changemakers have been recording observations and tallying points. There were many disappointing surprises with whole bananas and apples.
For parents, a great conversation to have with your child is in regards to their fruit break. Does your child like the fruit you are selecting? Would they prefer it cut in half or a smaller version of the fruit? This is a great discussion to have to reduce the waste we are seeing at school and to reinforce their learning.
Congrats 1 Purple!

Dear Parents,
Thank you to all those families who have sent in library books so far. We still have a number of books out, so please have a really good look around your house for any books with a St Joseph's barcode on the front.
Thanks again for a wonderful year of borrowing!

As we finish the year I’d like to say a huge thank you to the beautiful Defence students and families that have welcomed me so warmly into the St Joseph’s community this year. Over the six months I have been here it’s been such a pleasure spending time with you all - crafting, talking, playing, laughing and supporting (with a lot of freddo frogs eaten along the way!)
I would like to wish Amelia and Matilda along with all our year 6 Defence students the very best for 2025 as you all transition to new schools. You will all be greatly missed but I look forward to hearing the news of your new adventures and friendships and know you will all shine and grow.
