Week 2 Term 4 2024 Newsletter

One thing I asked of the Lord,

to behold the beauty of the Lord (Ps 27:4)

    AP_w2t4.jpg

This term, we are truly blessed with many opportunities to come together and celebrate what matters most to us as a community. Amid the busy events, celebrations, and occasions, it can be easy to lose sight of why we gather, who we gather for, and what truly matters. It is important to take a moment to pause, appreciate the beauty around us, and see God's presence in these occasions. As we gather in both the big and small moments, we must remember that at the heart of every celebration are our students.

     .

Jamie Pearlman Cup and Boorowa Carnival

Today Mr Tarrant accompanied a group of Year 5 and 6 students to play in the Jamie Pearlman Cup Basketball finals. It is a fantastic achievement to reach the finals and represent our school. On Friday, over 50 students from Year 5 and 6 will be attending the Boorowa touch football and netball carnival. Thank you to our teachers and parent volunteers for supporting their participation in this event.

     .

    Grandparent’s Day

We look forward to welcoming families for Grandparent’s Day on Wednesday 30th October. We will commence the day with a prayer celebration in the hall at 9:15am, followed by classroom visits. To conclude our celebration all Grandparents and Parents are invited to join us for scones, tea, and coffee. Please RSVP via QKR for catering purposes.

     .

    Family Picnic and Colour Run

Preparations are well underway for our Family Picnic and Colour Run on the 3rd November. Families are encouraged to bring along a rug and some picnic food to enjoy the sunshine, some fun activities and the company of the St Joseph’s community. There will be a BBQ and international food stall as well as sweet treats available on the day. With a colour run organised by the Community Council to conclude the festivities, it should be a wonderful community event.

The picnic will include a cake stall, information about how to contribute cakes, slices and sweets to the stall will be sent home next week.

To assist with catering and to volunteer your time, we are asking that families RSVP via the jot form below. Thank you to those who have already volunteered.

Families Leaving at the end of 2024

Please let us know via the front office if your family are leaving St Joseph’s at the end of 2024 (other than graduating students). This allows us to plan and accept new enrolments across the school.

    .

Have a great end to the week.

    Yours in Christ,

    Christian Meditation

On Wednesdays after second break all classes will be participating in Christian meditation. Christian meditation involves the students sitting in silence with their eyes closed to be in the presence of the Christ. Today I joined the Foundation students during their meditation and it was wonderful to see all students still, silent and praying together. Ask your child to explain Christian meditation to you and perhaps even pray together at home.

    Prayer Celebrations

This term there are a number of prayer celebrations, please mark them in your calendar.

    Parish

    Children’s Liturgy

St Joseph’s Parish is starting Children’s liturgy during mass at the 8am mass on Sunday 3rd of November. The aim is for Children’s liturgy to continue fortnightly at the 8am mass. Children’s liturgy is a great opportunity for children to learn from the Gospels during mass in a more child-friendly way. There is no need to register for your child to attend, they can go with the person leading children’s liturgy when instructed during the mass and will return before communion. The person or people leading Children’s liturgy will hold a Working With Vulnerable People’s card.

    Sustainability in Action

    School Recycle Centre

This will be the last call for lids, dental products and batteries for this year. If you have any piles at home you would like to bring in, please send them by the end of next week so that we may send in our collections.

    Sustainability w2t4.png

Are there any interested parents who would like to take on a collection for the 2025 school year? This is a simple job that can be done once per term, allowing our school to continue in its mission of sustainability. If you are interested, please contact me for more information.

    ScholasticBookclubImage.jpg

The last Scholastic book club for the year went out last week and orders need to be in by Thursday, 31st October. This issue has lots of great Christmas present ideas and as always, a percentage of every purchase goes straight back to the school.

This year we will be wrapping library borrowing up a bit earlier, in Week 5. Students will still be reading and accessing books during library sessions, however they won't be able to take any home after Week 5. This will allow us to do a thorough sort and stocktake ready for next year. Please have a really good hunt around your house for any library books and get them back in!

We are looking forward to another amazing term of Library and Technology

    Mrs Mihalopoulos

    elizabeth.mihalopoulos@cg.catholic.edu.au

Term 4 already! We’ve had a great start to the term at Defence Kids Club with fabulous marble block constructions, loom band creations and delicious fairy bread making.

It’s been a delight spending time with our Year 6 Defence students and undertaking a transition to high school program - they have undertaken the program with great enthusiasm and consideration and hopefully it helps each of them in a small way to feel more equipped for this exciting (but also nerve wracking) transition.

We are beginning plans for our Remembrance Day Ceremony for Monday 11th November and look forward to sharing details soon.
